X Implements Stronger Measures Against Content Theft

X has introduced new policies and technical improvements to address content theft and engagement manipulation on its platform.

The changes target creators who repost or steal content from others to gain monetized impressions through the platform’s revenue-sharing program. According to Nikita Bier, X’s new Grok AI model can now detect duplicated content at three times the rate of its previous version. When stolen content is identified, monetized impressions are redirected to the original creator.

This applies to copied videos, images, and viral text posts. Attempts to disguise stolen content through watermarks, intros, or edits will also result in credit being given to the original uploader. X has detected 1.5 million stolen posts in its latest review cycle, with over $1 million in creator payouts now being returned to original creators.

The platform is also taking action against bots and engagement bait. X is suspending bots at a rate of 208 per minute. Repeated attempts to solicit engagement, such as posts promising to follow users who reply or like content, can result in removal from the creator program and potential account suspension after three violations.

These measures build on previous efforts, including an updated video editor designed to encourage original content creation using platform tools rather than reposting.

The crackdown comes amid ongoing challenges with content moderation and creator monetization on social media platforms. X, like Instagram, Facebook, and Reddit, has struggled with recirculated viral content that undermines original creators while artificially inflating engagement metrics.

The new policies aim to protect the integrity of the creator revenue program by ensuring rewards go to those who produce original material. By redirecting monetization to original creators and penalizing repeated offenders, X seeks to reduce the incentive for content theft.
