X Launches History Tab to Consolidate Bookmarks, Likes, Etc.

X has introduced a new History tab that brings together a user’s bookmarks, likes, videos, and articles into one centralized location. The feature, initially rolling out on iOS, was announced by X Head of Product Nikita Bier on May 13th.

The Bookmarks button in the app’s left-side navigation menu has been renamed to History. Inside the new section, content is organized into four separate tabs: Bookmarks, Likes, Videos, and Articles. While Bookmarks and Likes represent intentional saves, the Videos and Articles tabs automatically populate based on content users have watched or read on the platform. The entire History section remains private to the individual user.

The update aims to make it easier for users to return to content they want to revisit later, functioning similarly to a browser history or reading list. Previously, these items were scattered across different parts of the app – bookmarks in the main menu and likes on the user profile.

The feature could particularly benefit X’s long-form article format, which the platform has been promoting as an alternative to short posts. By automatically tracking articles users engage with, X is positioning itself as a more convenient destination for longer content consumption and discovery.

This development comes amid a broader shift in digital publishing. Many web publishers have reported declining referral traffic from platforms like Facebook and Google due to changing algorithms and increased AI-driven content summaries. X appears to be capitalizing on this trend by encouraging creators and publishers to post directly on its platform, where content can be more easily saved and revisited by users.
