Renowned Niche Site Owner Angus Thody Talks Industry Change & New Free White Label Venture In GDI Video
The dating industry is as competitive as it’s ever been, with established players, new startups, affiliates & mobile apps all bidding for a slice of this booming market.
History has shown that adapting to the changes in the industry is vital to staying competitive, and recently a group of established white label players decided to come together to form a new venture designed to bring free sites to the white label dating model.
And GDI recently sat down with one of the co-founders of the company, called Free Dating Platform – renowned dating site owner Angus Thody, who owns over 700 niche sites around the world.
In the latest instalment of our “GDI Meets” series, Thody speaks about stumbling into the online dating game after buying some domains in the early 2000s, on to the “crazy” boom years towards the end of the decade, where his sites were growing by 20% a month.
The entrepreneur speaks about how the LTV of an online dating consumer has fallen over the past few years, with the onset of hugely popular mobile apps like Tinder shaking up the dating industry.
So together with Tim Taylor & Andy Hammonds, the dating site owners decided to build their own unique white label platform that allows partners to create free dating sites – which see strong word of mouth & lower cost per acquisition – as a new source of traffic & way to promote paid sites to consumers.
