The domain endings .porn and .adult have become available today.
The top level domains can now be bought by the public through ICM Registry.
The domains are available from the 4th June, 2015 at 12:00pm EDT and 16:00 UTC.
Stuart Lawley, Chairman and CEO of ICM Registry, said: “With nearly 15,000 names already registered even before general availability opened, there is clearly a strong interest in these adult TLDs. Considering the success of our previous launch phases, we’re looking forward to .PORN and .ADULT becoming accessible to the general public.”
The new domains have apparently already sold more than most TLDs launched under ICANN’s new program, through special programs designed for trademark owners and .xxx owners.
ICM Registry have already sold over 7,000 names per new adult TLD since launching in March 2015.
As we reported earlier in the year, celebrities like Taylor Swift and David Beckham bought their adult domain names when they were offered them in a pre-release sale.
Lawley said: “The opening up of .PORN and .ADULT to the public brings exciting opportunities for those creative enough to capitalize on the SEO inherent in our new TLDS and to experiment with new marketing initiatives and sites.”
The ICM also noted that porn endings could be used in non-adult scenarios, because of the trend for using “porn” as a way to express enthusiasm – for example with food.porn or shoe.porn.
The .adult domain ending could obviously be incredibly useful to the online dating industry.
The ICM said “porn,” “adult,” “sex” and “xxx” are searched over 300m times every month,
Their next domain, .sex, is due to be launched in the fall of 2015.
