Personality-based dating app CLiKD hosted its first ultra-speed dating event on London’s South Bank last week.
‘Date Escapes’ brought together 32 singles for an evening filled with three minute dates. The twist was that four new couples would be randomly chosen at the end of the night and sent on a romantic weekend away to an unknown European city.
The contestants had a short period of time to decide whether or not they could go on a holiday with the person sitting opposite them. CLiKD designed the event to try and bring some of the spontaneity back to dating.
Sponsored by mystery holiday company WowTrip, the ‘Date Escapes’ winners won’t find out their random destination until they arrive at the airport.
CLiKD’s new Head of Partnerships and Made in Chelsea star Freddie Browne hosted the competition. Several of his castmates, including Sammy Allsop, Eliza Batten and Miles Nazaire, took part in the speed dating.
CEO and Founder Michael Blakeley said in a statement: “We love to push the boundaries of what romance and dating means in the modern age.
“Personality is at the heart of our dating app, after all it’s not until you go on holiday with someone that you really get to know them. So why not spend your first date in a romantic city in the sun?”.
All attendees were also treated to goodie bags when they left, which were filled with a variety of items including wallets, hot sauce, bottle openers and vegan condoms.
GDI spoke to Browne two days before the event about why he joined the CLiKD team alongside his television work. He said he liked that it was a very creative brand in an exciting industry, and he wanted to work on something that kept motivating him to succeed outside of the reality show.
