Coffee Meets Bagel Co-CEO Met Partner on Her Own Platform
Coffee Meets Bagel co-founder and co-CEO Dawoon Kang met her current partner on her own dating app.
She told Business Insider that she was not interested in “being cool” when she put together the dating app.
Kang couldn’t remember exactly what she wrote on her profile, but she explained to Business Insider it was something like this: “I am in pursuit of my personal legend, and in search of wonder, someone who strives to be her best every day.”
She also wrote that she appreciated when her date was “curious, aspires to be a contribution to the world, wants to connect and really get to know each other.”
Kang acknowledged that people may think this is cheesy, but continued to say: “What I really want to encourage people to be is yourself. Cool or not, if that’s what you want, say that, because otherwise how is the other person going to know? And you really want to not waste time attracting the wrong people.”
She is trying to incorporate this approach into Coffee Meets Bagel, which appears to be working – the dating app has raised a total of nearly $20 million in funding since it launched in 2012.
Kang gave a final piece of advice: “Don’t be afraid to say what you want, because that will attract the right type of people.”
