Grindr Announces Suite Of New AI-Driven Features
Grindr has announced a suite of new features powered by artificial intelligence, aiming to enhance user experience and support the company’s ambitious growth targets. The LGBTQ-focused dating app is rolling out updates designed to personalize interactions, improve navigation, and drive revenue – while also keeping the features opt-in instead of forcing them on all users.
Among the key features is Chat Summaries, which will provide users with conversational highlights and reminders about past interactions, such as topics discussed or where they last met a match. Another feature, A-List, will create an automated list of profiles with whom users have had meaningful conversations, helping them reconnect with key matches and focus their attention on users that they meshed well with.
Chief Product Officer AJ Balance explained that these features, alongside others set to launch this year, will allow users to “pick up where they left off,” fostering deeper connections. The company’s broader goal, as stated during its June investor day, is to achieve 20–25% annual revenue growth through 2027.
Some of the AI-driven features will be free, while others will be behind a paywall or offered through limited trials. For example, users will receive five complimentary chat summaries before being prompted to subscribe. CEO George Arison emphasized the company’s commitment to maintaining a strong free offering, saying, “We don’t want Grindr to become some of our peer apps where they’re just focused on monetization.”
Additionally, Grindr’s AI Wingman feature, originally slated for a 2027 launch, is already in testing with 10,000 U.S. users, demonstrating the company’s accelerated development timeline. This feature was frequently mentioned last year and was expected to be a long-term project, meaning that its development may have accelerated.
