A new study spoke to 1,000 singles in Britain over the age of 50 to find out how they are going about finding love. 7 in 10 respondents over 50 stated that they are looking for companionship.
The study, organised by comparethemarket, found that 3 in 5 over-50s are confident when it comes to in-person dating, but only 2 in 5 feel confident taking on online dating. When it comes to the perfect first date, a third of respondents say meeting for coffee is ideal.
In a success story for dating platforms, half of those have tried dating apps and websites have met a partner through that method.
Most respondents prefer to meet their partner at social events, through friends, or at public places. However only 1% of over-50s stated that they want to be set up on a blind date.
The features most sought after by over-50s in potential partners are kindness, being caring, and having a good sense of humour. Among the least important traits are job status and whether they have children.
After assessing the cost of dining out, and the number of Google searches for dating platforms that support over-50s, London, Edinburgh and Glasgow are the top three cities in Britain for dating among this demographic.
