Indian ‘Closed Community’ Dating App Closes $180k In Funding
A new Indian matchmaking startup has announced $180k in pre-Series A funding.
Aisle.co just closed the round from ah! Ventures and TermSheet.io, with the round being led by San Fransisco angel investor Anand Vijay.
Vijay is joined by other angels like Snapdeal’s Anand Chandrasekaran, ex-Flipkartian Mekin Maheshwari, Akshay Syal, Richard Kim, Jana Pokkalla and Manish Gautam.
Aisle.co is a matchmaking app that lets you connect via Facebook and LinkedIn to enter a “closed community” dating pool of “urban, like-minded Indians”.
The app employs a high level of screening and filtering for its audience, to keep its user base “high quality”.
Speaking about the app’s funding round, Sonia Pradhan, TermSheet.io’s COO said:
“TermSheet.io focusses on identifying interesting startups that attract the attention of product-focussed angels and firms looking for outliers. Aisle.co checks on all of these boxes. We love what Aisle is building.
“And that is why this is the second time we have facilitated a round for Aisle on our platform. We believe in introducing interesting investors to high-calibre founders like Able and both Mekin Maheshwari and Anand Chandrasekaran fit this profile.”
The company was founded in 2014 by Able Joseph, Bivin Benny and Razee Marikar, and now sees between 500 to 800 registrations a day, is live in over 50 countries and over 25% of the registered base have connected.
The company plans to use the funding to build its team and start more business partnerships.
Speaking about the app, founder Able Joseph said: “A balanced gender ratio coupled with a trustworthy brand which has gathered a comprehensive list of users who are of similar mind-sets when it comes to attractiveness and compatibility is exactly what urban India needs in the matchmaking space.
“Not everyone has got the formula right, and I feel we have managed to add most value in the online dating space for Indians.”
