Quibi, an upcoming short-form video streaming platform founded by former Walt Disney Studios chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg, has announced it is working on a unique interactive dating show.
‘The Hot Drop’ will use video and an audience voting procedure to connect singles in real-time.
At the start of the show, the dating profiles of people of all genders and sexual preferences are broadcast live. The watching audience then submits videos through the Quibi app to explain why they want to date one of the singles.
Three top candidates are selected and the rest of the audience vote for their favourite. They then get to watch the winners go on their first date at the end of the week, before the couple decide whether or not they want to see each other again.
The programme is produced by ITV Studios Entertainment, the same company that produces popular reality show Love Island in the US and UK.
One of the executive producers Jessica Sebastian told Deadline: “We see The Hot Drop as a major step toward modernizing the ‘dating’ genre.
“From the casting to its cinematic style, it will be a fresh and edgy new entry in the space, and we’re excited to enlist the Quibi audience’s help in putting together the perfect match.”
There is currently no set date for when ‘The Hot Drop’ is going to premiere, but Quibi is not going to be available for consumers until 6th April.
