Having debuted its new $5 monthly premium service earlier this year, Medium has started to roll out audio versions of stories.
The new feature, which is available to paying members, lets subscribers listen to audio versions of “every member-exclusive story”, as well as other top stories selected by Medium editors.
Medium said: “Our audio content is designed to give you a direct, emotional version of each story with professionally recorded narrations – no automated voices allowed.”
There are already over 50 stories available for subscribers to listen to on the site.
The recordings are narrated by both professional voice actors, and by the authors of the pieces themselves.
A company spokesperson said: “The most popular stories on Medium are often first-person perspectives, so our audio is designed to give you a direct, emotional version of the story with professionally recorded narrations by real people.”
The premium service, which costs $60 a year, also gives subscribers access to new reading features, exclusive stories from top writers, and an offline reading list this isn’t reliant on WiFi.
