Pairs Appoints Ryoma Yamamoto as New CEO

Pairs, the Match Group dating app for Japanese singles, has appointed Ryoma Yamamoto as its new CEO. Yamamoto previously worked at tech brands including OYO, DoorDash, and Apple Pay.

In a recent announcement, Pairs shared that Yamamoto has significant expertise in business development, business growth, and mobile offerings.

Yamamoto shared that tech-based dating services are facing a turning point and that the industry still has a very high growth potential, especially in Japan. In this new appointment, the goal will be to drive further business growth for Pairs, the new CEO shared.

Malgosia Green, CEO of Match Group Asia, shared that Yamamoto’s experience will help Pairs take its next steps. She thanked outgoing CEO Junya Ishibashi, who oversaw over 700,000 finding love on Pairs during his tenure.

Ishibashi, who will remain as a Director at the company, shared his gratitude towards the Pairs team and looks to help Yamamoto with the various challenges he will now face.

Pairs is a dating app that can exclusively be used in Japan. The platform often works alongside government officials to discuss Japan’s poor marriage and birth rates, an initiative Global Dating Insights noted in Junya Ishibashi’s selection in the 2023 Power Book.
