Social media platform Snapchat is further upgrading its Sounds feature, which allows users to add music, TV & film clips, and self-recorded audio to their messages and stories.
The first new feature coming to the Sounds tool enables users to match chosen media with a relevant photo filter. For example, after putting a summer-y filter on a holiday photo, users will have a number of upbeat music choices recommended to them to add to the image.
The second new feature enables users to create montage clips, made up of between 4 and 20 images/videos from their camera roll. These montage clips will now move in rhythm to the beat of the music playing over the video.
The original Sounds feature was introduced in 2020, with videos created with Sounds receiving over 183 billion views globally so far. Snapchat sees over 750 million monthly active users, and aims to reach over 1 billion people in the next 2-3 years.
For the online dating industry, the Sounds feature can be seen as an important innovation for their competitor, the social media sector. It is another tool that allows users to display their authentic self in a creative way, something that many dating brands are looking to enable on their own platforms.
