Spark Networks Appoints Bert Althaus as New CFO

Spark Networks has announced that Bert Althaus will soon be taking over as the company’s new Chief Financial Officer.

He is set to replace Robert O’Hare on 16th September, who has spent four-and-a-half years as CFO at the Spark Networks office in New York. When Althaus joins, he will be based at the Berlin headquarters.

O’Hare will continue to work until the official start date and then assist with any ongoing transitional issues. He reportedly handed in his notice in order to pursue a senior financial executive role at an unnamed company in San Francisco.

Spark Networks CEO Jeronimo Folgueira said in a statement: “Bert brings extensive financial and operational experience that will be a tremendous asset to our leadership team as we continue to grow and disrupt the $5 billion online dating market.

“I am extremely confident that Bert’s proven track record will enable us to maximize scale and continue to drive cost efficiencies throughout the business. The Board of Directors and I are delighted to welcome him to the company and look forward to his contribution as we progress towards our target of over $50 million Adjusted EBITDA in 2020.”

Folgueira continued on to thank O’Hare for his “extraordinary contributions”, especially towards the recently completed Zoosk acquisition. He also noted that the company had grown almost three times larger since O’Hare joined the team.

Speaking about his new role, Althaus explained: “I am excited to join Spark Networks at such an exciting and pivotal time and be part of such an experienced and highly motivated management team.

“With the acquisition of Zoosk, Spark Networks is now the second largest dating company in North America in revenue. The company’s extensive portfolio of iconic brands and its new tech platform holds great potential to significantly scale.”

Spark Networks also revealed that its first half 2019 financial results will be published on 29th August following the close of the financial markets. A conference call to discuss the results with investors will take place at 4:30pm ET on the same day.
