WeStyle, an online shopping platform created by the founding team of Zhenai.com, has closed a Series A investment round for an undisclosed amount.
The round was led by Venturous Group and is a significant step for the startup as it attempts to strengthen its position in China’s rapidly growing fashion e-commerce sector.
It leverages the latest artificial intelligence technology to suggest new items of clothing to women, men and children. The team also employs human stylists to make extra manual recommendations and help refine the artificial intelligence.
Dr. Song Li, founder of Zhenai.com and Chairman of WeStyle, said in a statement: “Chinese fashion e-commerce represents a fantastic opportunity. The market is already enormous and growing at an unprecedented rate. WeStyle.ai is in a unique position to take a leadership role in expanding personalized online styling services for this retail segment.
“Our research shows that consumers are fed up with looking through an overwhelming number of products to find items that best suit their styles and body types. By leveraging rapidly advancing AI technologies, combined with the personal touch of human stylists, WeStyle.ai has a very compelling proposition for this immense target group of mass market fashion consumers.”
Venturous Group also explained that the founding team’s impressive entrepreneurial history of starting and growing a technology platform, was one of the main reasons it wanted to back the new company.
The online fashion category is expected to reach $450 billion in annual sales and represent more than 45% of the global market by 2025.
