Anti-Ghosting Dating App ‘After’ Launches in New York This April
Following a successful launch in Texas, the dating app After is set to expand to New York on April 2, 2025. Designed to foster authenticity and accountability in online dating, After differentiates itself from traditional swipe-based platforms by prioritizing meaningful connections and user well-being.
The Austin-based app originally launched back in September 2024, targeting gen-Z daters who were feeling dating fatigue thanks to traditional dating platforms. The platform’s rapid growth has allowed it to make the push into New York after only a few months, with its boost in popularity driven by its ghosting-free and user-interaction-focused approach to dating.
One of its key features, “Goodbye Ghosting,” aims to reduce abrupt and unexplained disconnections by forcing users to provide a reason before unmatching. However, with its New York launch, After is also introducing Community Verification, a feature that enables users to vouch for each other’s authenticity following a video call. After answering a simple yes/no question about whether their match accurately represents their profile, users can contribute to building trust within the community. If a person receives three more positive votes than negative ones, they earn a Community Verified Badge as a visible marker on their account.
The launch will also be bringing a new set of features that allow users to easily distinguish between locals and visitors, making it easier to tell if a match will be in the area long-term or if they’ll be moving away in the near future. This, along with all of the app’s current features – including its match prompts system and guide resources – is meant to help ease the dating process and the minimize confusion, stress and complexity that can come from the regular swiping experience.
