Bluesky Expands AI Assistant Attie with Research Feature

Bluesky has added a new capability to its AI assistant Attie, turning it into a broader research tool for the company’s social network and related applications.

The feature, called Quests, allows users to pose open-ended questions about information and news circulating across Bluesky and any apps built on the underlying AT Protocol, collectively referred to as the Atmosphere. Examples cited by the company include requests for trending topics or identification of influential accounts in a specific field or location.

Attie launched in March as a tool that enables users to design custom algorithms and create personalised feeds without writing code. Bluesky has indicated it may eventually support more advanced uses, such as building simple apps. The assistant remains free for now, though the company has previously explored the possibility of introducing charges.

Bluesky’s registered user base stood at around 45.6 million accounts at the time of the announcement. Growth has slowed after a rapid expansion that saw the network double to 40 million users by last October. The company has been developing additional tools and services aimed at supporting further user growth and potential monetisation.

Jay Graber, Bluesky’s chief innovation officer and former CEO, described Attie as a means for users to navigate online information. “Attie’s AI is a tool that helps you make sense of the internet, helping you fight back against the proliferation of misinformation and noise by giving you the tools to find the truth yourself,” she wrote. She added that the goal is to lower the barrier to using the AT Protocol and to place customisation tools in the hands of a wider audience.

Graber noted that Attie is being redesigned with accessibility improvements and a new logo, with further updates planned in the coming months. The Quests experience is currently in beta, with access being extended gradually through a waitlist.

Toni Schneider, previously founding CEO of Automattic, has replaced Graber as Bluesky’s CEO. The company raised $100 million in a funding round that closed in 2025, providing resources for continued experimentation with products such as Attie and other potential offerings, including premium subscriptions or tools aimed at power users.
