Bumble Launches Paid Plans Feature for In-Person Group Dating

Bumble has introduced a new paid feature called Plans, which organizes curated in-person group dating events. Users can RSVP and pay to attend events, with the option to bring a friend for an additional fee. The location is revealed only after payment. After the event, users can reconnect and match with attendees back on the app.

This may come off the back of a similar feature released for Bumble For Friends in 2023, also called Plans, which facilitated in-person get-togethers.

The feature flips the typical dating app flow by starting with real-world interaction rather than online discovery. It is designed to reduce swipe fatigue and encourage more intentional connections through shared experiences. Bumble is betting that group settings can lower the pressure of one-on-one dates while still leading to meaningful matches.

This development aligns with broader industry trends. Tinder has hosted live events such as pickleball gatherings in Los Angeles, and other platforms are experimenting with hybrid online-offline models. Bumble’s approach stands out by tying offline events directly into the core matching experience. However, success will depend on event quality, attendance, and whether users find the format more effective than traditional online dating

The paid structure serves as a filter for user intent, ensuring attendees are committed to showing up. However, it also adds a financial barrier that may limit accessibility. If effective, Plans could help Bumble differentiate itself in a market where users increasingly seek alternatives to endless swiping. However, given Bumble’s recent moves to kill off its conventional swipe feature, these kinds of drastic changes and sudden new releases could be a gamble – one that hinges heavily on how its existing user base responds.

Bumble’s move likely comes from the growing recognition that many users, particularly Gen Z and Millennials, want a better balance between digital matching and real-life interaction. As dating app fatigue persists, features that facilitate offline momentum are becoming more common across the industry.
