Facebook Dating Sees Surge in Popularity Among Millennials

As dating app fatigue continues to grow, younger generations are increasingly turning to an unlikely contender for romance: Facebook Dating. With mainstream platforms like Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge leaving some users burned out by trends like ghosting or the simple fact that the swiping structure has become repetitive, Facebook Dating has surprisingly managed to gain extra traction and a new injection of active users.

Recent data reveals that daily conversations on Facebook Dating among users aged 18 to 29 have surged by 24% in the past year. Over half of these young users are returning to the app monthly, with 55% of women and 56% of men regularly engaging. Facebook Dating is also proving to be a more fruitful platform for women, with 72% of their “likes” resulting in matches, compared to just 11% for men. Moreover, nearly half of women on the app are seeking long-term relationships.

One of the standout features of Facebook Dating is its user-friendly setup and free access to key features, such as seeing who has liked your profile — a service typically locked behind paywalls on other apps. This could play a large part in why it’s seen such a spike in popularity, since users are not expected to pay for features that make it easier to find potential interested matches.

This no-cost model, which came into focus midway through last month, is potentially a major advantage for Facebook Dating when compared to its competitors. With more users looking for platforms that break away from the usual online dating formula, the free and straightforward nature of Facebook Dating makes it an obvious choice for a lot of burned-out singles.
