Facebook Tests Post View Count Display for Creators
Facebook is testing the display of post view counts, making the metric visible directly on posts for content creators.
The test, reported by app researcher Radu Oncescu, shows view counts appearing on the main post display, though currently visible only to the post’s creator. Meta has confirmed it is testing the feature for users in Professional Mode, with a limited test for regular profiles.
This development aligns with Meta’s broader emphasis on view counts as a more accurate measure of content performance compared to traditional metrics like likes and follower counts. The company has already implemented view data on Instagram and Threads, arguing that algorithmic changes have reduced the relevance of older engagement signals.
Meta notes that more than 50% of posts shown in Instagram feeds now come from recommendation systems rather than followed accounts. This shift, combined with declining use of public likes due to privacy concerns, has made view counts a more reliable indicator of reach and interest.
The introduction of view counts on Facebook could help creators better understand their content’s actual performance. However, it may also discourage posting if numbers are consistently low, particularly as overall Facebook usage trends downward in some segments.
Meta has not provided a full rollout timeline or details on whether the view counts will eventually become visible to all users. The current test is part of ongoing efforts to provide creators with better performance insights across its platforms.
