World Cup Continues to Boost Dating App Activity in Host Cities
The 2026 FIFA World Cup has led to increased activity on dating apps in the 11 U.S. host cities, with international tourists creating new opportunities for local singles.
Previous 2025 data from Feeld shows a significant rise in soccer-related mentions in user profiles. In New York City, there was an 88% increase in users listing “soccer” as an interest compared to the same period last year. Nationwide, mentions of “soccer,” “FIFA,” and “World Cup” rose 97% year-over-year. Feeld also reported higher numbers of meaningful connections formed on game days in cities such as Miami and Kansas City.
Tinder recorded a 15% increase in total users and approximately 25% more swiping activity during the early weeks of the tournament. The sporting event appears to be serving as a common icebreaker for online conversations.
A survey by DatingAdvice.com found that 44% of singles in host cities have already gone on a date or hooked up with a World Cup visitor. About one-third reported a significant increase in their overall dating activity since the tournament began. Sixty-eight percent of single residents in host cities said their dating lives had improved during the World Cup, and more than three-quarters described the local dating scene as more fun.
Respondents cited several appealing qualities of international visitors, including the chance to learn about other cultures, shared interest in soccer, accents, physical appearance, and sense of adventure. Brazilian fans were rated as the most attractive, followed by Argentinians and Australians.
The influx of tourists has created a temporary surge in dating opportunities, particularly in cities hosting matches. While the long-term impact on dating app usage remains unclear, the current tournament has demonstrated how major sporting events can influence social and romantic interactions in host locations.
