Goose Dating App Launches in the United States
Goose, a new dating and lifestyle app for gay men, has officially launched in the United States. Created by and model Derek Chadwick, the platform emphasizes social-first connections over traditional swipe-based matching. According to a press release by the platform, it has accumulated over 56,000 pre-downloads as of June 24, supported by pre-launch events in New York City, Los Angeles, and Miami.
Goose aims to facilitate connections based on shared experiences and community rather than rapid transactional matching, skirting around the problems that many users have with the conventional swiping structure of a lot of “normal” dating apps.
The app rejects algorithmic matching and upfront intention labels, and users “wave” to show interest, with mutual waves opening communication. Profiles are reviewed by humans rather than algorithms before approval, allowing for more natural connection. Features include scrolling through community members, a live map showing nearby users, the ability to post photos, videos, and real-time updates, and privacy tools such as Vanish Mode and screenshot protection. No membership fees are required.
The launch occurs amid ongoing shifts in the LGBTQ+ dating app market. Platforms are experimenting with different models to address user fatigue with algorithmic systems and superficial interactions. Goose’s curated, human-reviewed approach and focus on real-world context are meant to match the current trend toward more intentional digital dating experiences.
