Hily Emphasizes ‘Human Intelligence’ Rather Than AI in Dating Apps
Hily is promoting a “human intelligence” (HI) approach in its app as a counter to the increasing integration of artificial intelligence across major dating platforms. The company’s relaunch of HI features comes amid user concerns about AI reducing authenticity in online dating.
According to Hily’s August 2025 T.R.U.T.H. Report, based on a survey of 1,559 U.S. daters, 69% of Gen Z and 74% of Millennials believe AI involvement makes dating less genuine. Over half of young users (54% of women and 63% of men) said they would be less attracted to a match suspected of using AI to create their profile or content. Despite these views, many still rely on AI for practical tasks such as writing bios (used by 51% of women and 50% of Gen Z) or generating conversation suggestions (used by 52% of men and 47% of Millennials).
Hily’s chief product officer, Liubomyr Pivtorak, stated the company will use technology where beneficial but will not replace core human elements of connection. Dating coach Julie Nguyen noted that over-relying on AI could diminish the intuitive learning and personal growth that comes from authentic interactions.
The stance contrasts with competitors like Bumble and Tinder, which have introduced or expanded AI features for matching, content generation, and user experience. Hily’s approach targets users experiencing fatigue with algorithmic and automated tools.
While many platforms view AI as a way to improve efficiency and personalization, a segment of users appears wary of its impact on genuine connection. Hily’s focus on “human intelligence” is one strategy to differentiate in a crowded market.
