Hornet Expands Model Search for Real-World Queer Events

Hornet, a long-lived social networking and dating platform focused specifically on gay or otherwise non-hetrosexual male users, is broadening its Model Search program globally, moving beyond traditional digital matching to create hybrid online and offline experiences for queer users. Following a successful 2025 edition in Thailand that drew over 1,000 participants and helped the app reach record active user levels in the market, Hornet is launching Model Search Turkey 2026 and returning the Thailand edition.

The program functions as an interactive community and creator experience rather than a conventional modeling contest. Participants complete weekly challenges, attend live events and photoshoots, and engage in other activities. Hornet users can vote and contribute through the app, turning passive scrolling into active participation. The 2026 expansion includes larger live events and involvement from prominent LGBTQ+ figures.

Hornet’s approach addresses common complaints about dating and social apps, including superficial interactions and low engagement. Victor Sevilla, VP of Marketing at Hornet, stated that users are seeking experiences that go beyond endless swiping and transactional interactions. The Model Search is designed to foster active participation and a sense of belonging.

As many platforms face user fatigue and slowing growth, some are experimenting with hybrid models that encourage offline events and community building. Hornet’s focus on queer-specific experiences positions it as one of several apps attempting to differentiate through real-world activation rather than solely relying on algorithmic matching.

Historically, Hornet has seen a lot of use in areas where coming out would be difficult, serving as a social tool for gay men who may not be able to openly seek out people within the community otherwise. Hornet’s continued investment in the Model Search suggests confidence in the model as a way to combat engagement challenges in the queer social space.
