Reddit Rolls Out Video Replies in Comment Threads
Reddit has introduced video replies, allowing users to post short video responses directly within comment threads. The feature, which began rolling out to moderators this week and will expand to all public communities on June 11, adds another layer of expression alongside text, images, and GIFs.
According to Reddit, video replies are designed to support richer and more dynamic conversations. The format could be particularly useful for AMAs, tutorials, demonstrations, or other interactive discussions where visual context adds value. Users will be able to share quick explanations, reactions, or additional information in video form.
However, Reddit acknowledged that video replies may not be suitable for every subreddit. Moderators will have the ability to disable the feature in their communities to prevent misuse, such as inappropriate content or disruptive responses. This level of control aims to maintain the quality and tone of discussions across different spaces.
The update reflects Reddit’s ongoing efforts to enhance engagement as the platform continues to grow in active users and influence. Reddit has become a key source of human-curated information, with users often heading there first specifically to find human-made replies rather than AI responses or carefully-curated articles – and video replies could further expand its utility in that regard.
