Pinterest Issues Guidance for Brand Product Catalogs

Pinterest has released best practice recommendations for brands seeking to improve product discovery and performance within its shopping ecosystem. The platform, which positions itself as a key destination for purchase-oriented inspiration and research, emphasized the importance of accurate and complete catalog data.

According to Pinterest, the product catalog feed directly influences reach, visibility, and auction participation. Missing, vague, or outdated information can limit campaign effectiveness. The company advised brands to regularly update pricing, availability, descriptions, and other key fields.

Titles that incorporate brand and product-type keywords have been linked to 28% higher return on ad spend (ROAS), while pattern-related keywords have shown 22% higher ROAS. Pinterest recommended creating descriptive titles that reflect how users actually search, such as “summer wedding guest dress” or “back-to-school backpack,” and ensuring full catalog uploads rather than limited selections.

Complete product information, including high-quality images and detailed descriptions, was highlighted as critical for matching items to high-intent searches. The platform also stressed the value of strong data tracking. Advertisers using both the Conversions API and Pinterest Tag reportedly saw a 9% improvement in average cost per acquisition and 23.7% more attributed conversions compared to tag-only implementations.

To support optimization, Pinterest suggested avoiding excessive segmentation of product groups. Ad groups with fewer than 100 SKUs have been associated with 13.6% lower ROAS, while groups with at least 500 SKUs tend to perform better by providing more data for the system to identify patterns.

Additional recommendations include running campaigns for longer durations to account for users’ extended planning cycles and maintaining consistent pricing between Pins and landing pages to build trust.
