Sniffies Rolls Out New Features to Speed Up Hookups on Its Map
Sniffies, the web-based gay cruising app, has introduced several new features designed to help users connect faster and more intentionally. The updates focus on improving the map experience and reducing friction in finding compatible partners.
Key additions include:
- Cruiser Cards: A scrollable carousel at the bottom of the map that displays nearby active users sorted by their most recent activity. This allows users to see who is currently online and ready to meet without constantly panning or zooming the map.
- “Into” Filter: Users can now filter the map based on specific sexual interests (Oral give/receive, Fucking, or Jerk Off). Multiple filters can be combined, and matching icons appear on profiles for quick visual reference.
- Position Icons: Sexual position preferences (top, bottom, vers, or side) are now displayed directly on map avatars using simple emojis. This helps users identify compatibility at a glance before opening a profile.
- Share a Spot and Share a Group: In chats, users can drop a temporary location pin that expires after 60 minutes for safer meetup planning. They can also share group event details directly in conversations.
Sniffies Chief Marketing Officer Eli Martin stated that the app is built for immediacy rather than prolonged scrolling or paywalled basic functions. The new tools aim to make connections clearer and reduce dead ends.
These updates come after Sniffies faced challenges with its short-lived iOS app launch, which was pulled from the App Store due to content guidelines. The company has since focused on enhancing its core web-based map experience.
The changes position Sniffies as taking a different approach from competitors like Grindr, emphasizing quick, straightforward cruising over extended engagement or premium gating of core features.
