Threads Expands Live Chats With Translation, Co-Hosts
Meta is rolling out a new set of updates to Threads’ Live Chats feature as it continues to invest in real-time conversations on the platform. The latest additions include automatic translations, expanded access for more creators, and several new moderation tools designed to improve the live chat experience.
One of the biggest updates is built-in translation support, allowing participants to follow conversations across different languages more easily. The feature is intended to make Live Chats more accessible to Threads’ growing global audience, particularly as communities become increasingly international.
Meta is also expanding who can host Live Chats. The feature is now available to all Community Champions, a group of users recognised for regularly contributing to active communities and maintaining high levels of engagement. Previously, access had been more limited.
To help creators manage larger conversations, Live Chat hosts can now invite up to three co-hosts. These additional hosts can assist with moderation or act as guest speakers during discussions. Hosts also gain more control over conversations with the ability to delete messages for everyone, while Meta is testing a new design that makes host messages stand out more clearly within chats.
Live Chats were introduced as part of Threads’ effort to strengthen real-time discussions, an area where the platform initially struggled after launching as a competitor to X. Since then, Threads has added features including improved search, hashtags, and chronological feeds – while Live Chats have become another way to encourage live community engagement.
