Tinder Introduces AI-Powered Flirting Game in Partnership with OpenAI
Tinder has launched a new AI-powered game, The Game Game, designed to help users refine their conversation skills in a simulated dating scenario. The game, created in collaboration with OpenAI, features a voice-based chatbot using OpenAI’s GPT-4o model to mimic real-life conversations.
Players are dealt a set of virtual cards, each featuring a different AI persona and a fictional “meet cute” scenario—such as mistakenly picking up someone else’s luggage at an airport. The objective is to secure a date or phone number within a set time limit while receiving feedback based on a three-flame rating system.
According to Devyn Simone, Tinder’s relationship expert in residence, the time limit is a deliberate feature to encourage real-life interactions rather than extended AI-driven conversations. “This is just a game. It is not designed to replace human conversations,” Simone said at the launch event. Players are also limited to five games per day to keep the focus on real-world dating.
Unlike other AI-powered dating tools – such as Hinge’s AI prompt editor or Grindr’s AI wingman, which focus on text-based assistance – Tinder’s approach integrates voice interaction, aiming to create a more realistic and engaging experience. The AI rewards behaviors such as curiosity, warmth, and active listening, rather than simply delivering the most clever or rehearsed pickup lines.
Tinder describes The Game Game as a low-stakes, improv-style experience rather than a rigid guide to successful flirting. The goal is to help users feel more comfortable expressing themselves in conversations, ultimately boosting confidence for real-world interactions.
