Tinder Passport Goes Offline with Cross-City Dating in Asia
Tinder has taken its Passport feature full circle to create a unique offline experience for singles in Thailand, Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City. Dubbed “Tinder Passport: Teleport to Another City,” this event transformed Tinder’s virtual Passport experience into a real-world interaction through livestream portals.
Running from December 6-8, the portals were set up at Bangkok’s Siam Square and Ho Chi Minh’s Landmark 81, offering attendees the chance to converse with someone in another city for up to five minutes via video. Conversations were guided by random prompts and capped with an option to express interest, effectively emulating Tinder’s matching process in an indirect way.
This real-time experience aligns with a growing number of among young singles in the Asia-Pacific region that actively want relationships with people from other countries. According to a recent Tinder survey, up to 67% of surveyed Asian singles are eager to date somebody from a different country – with 87% even just wanting to make new friends abroad before they make any future travel plans.
Following its successful debut in Thailand and Vietnam, Tinder plans to roll out similar experiences in other major Asian cities next year. By blending technology with real-world interaction, Tinder continues to explore new ways to connect users across cultures and borders – and creates a fantastic marketing opportunity along the way.
