Online Buddies Buys Gay Dating App Jack’d
Online Buddies, the parent company of gay dating site Manhunt.net, has bought social networking app Jack’d.
Jack’d is location-based gay dating app which has amassed 5m members since its launch in 2010, and boasts 10,000 installs a day.
Online Buddies was formed in 2001, and owns Manhunt.net, which is one of the largest gay dating sites in the world.
Manhunt caused some controversy with their billboard adverts in Times Square and Los Angeles, which featured two men about to kiss.
Online Buddies’ CEO, Adam Segel, said: “Our goal is to have the broadest and best portfolio of mobile and desktop products to connect gay men everywhere, and this acquisition is an ideal fit with that strategy.
“I believe Jack’d is positioned to become the number one gay dating app in the world.”
Jack’d has a huge community of users, and employs a location-based service, along with extensive profile filtering – allowing men to choose what “scene” they are looking for.
These include Twinks, Bears, Strictly Friends, Long Term Relationships and Bi-Straight-curious.
Jack’d was created by Yosuke Matsuda from Lucid Dreams LLC, who said:
“Online Buddies is a pioneer in gay social networking, so I have no doubt they’re the right people to continue growing Jack’d.
“The team at Online Buddies is committed to improving the Jack’d user experience and they have the industry knowledge and experience to quickly turn around the product improvements and innovative features that our users want. Plus, they can provide the customer support that they deserve.”
