Indian dating app TrulyMadly, which prides itself on offering fully verified profiles, has just raised $5.7m in funding.

The funding comes from Helion Venture Partners and Kae Capital, and will be used to increase their team, market share and user acquisition.

The app was launched in August 2014, and apparently has over 200,000 users.

Their CEO and co-founder Sachin Bhatia, who founded the app with Hitesh Dhingra and Rahul Kumar, said: “since we are building a social network of sorts, the brand needs to grow virally and therefore we will be investing in developing original, sharable content.

“We will also be investing heavily in bolstering our product and tech team. We plan to grow to five million users by next year and sustain our leadership position in the dating and match-making space.”

The company said they register 100% month on month, and over 35% of users are women.

They also plan on growing to 5m users by the end of 2016.

Ritesh Banglani from Helion Venture Partners said: “When we saw the engagement metrics that the team has managed month on month, we were convinced they were on to something big and that we had to be part of this story.”

The app matches you with other singles using a Tinder-style functionality, but you must have a certain amount of profile verification before you can be matched.

TrulyMadly uses a Trust Score, which increases with each identity verification you add.

To get a Trust Score of 30%, you need to provide your LinkedIn account information and employment history.

You can also add your phone number, Facebook account, proof of ID and your passport details to improve your score.

Bhatia said: “We have been the first to promote safe online dating through 100 percent verified profiles. As a result, women users tend to prefer TrulyMadly over all other apps; making up as much as 35 percent of our user base. Also, the incredible growth in TrulyMadly’s adoption indicates that online dating is today as acceptable to people as is exchanging mobile messages with friends.”
