How Do People Describe Themselves In Dating Profiles?

okcupidstockHow do people define themselves in their online dating profiles?

The answer is found in the language data, says Darin Hawley, the owner of trivia site hugequiz.com.

Hawley pulled language data from around 97,000 OkCupid profiles of straight men and women, and shared his findings with Quartz.

He used scripts to discover the most used words in profiles for men and women, and filtered the language by sets of words – whether they were adjectives, nouns or interests.

By doing this, he found that the word “love” was used equally between sexes, whereas “family” was used twice as regularly by women.
