Badoo owner Andrey Andreev recently hosted a party for London’s Russian population, helping them to meet and connect as expats, Forbes Russia reports.
The idea for the party came at a meeting with the publisher of Zima, a magazine focused on the lives of Russians living abroad.
Andreev says Zima’s Katerina Nikitina “tormented” him, twisting his arm until he agreed to put on an event.
He added [translated from Russian]: “I wanted to do my part and decided to help. (…) I was born in Moscow, I own a Russian passport, I considered it my duty.”
It took place at Under the Bridge, a live music venue close to Stamford Bridge, the Chelsea Football Club stadium. Chelsea F.C. is owned by another Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich.
The attendees included actress Tatyana Lazareva and restaurateur Alexei Zimin.
The cost to Andreev came at approximately £140,000 ($185,000). Of this, £30,000 went to the catering staff, hand-picked by the CEO.
Forbes Russia says that Andreev holds monthly parties for the employees of Badoo, and that he often speaks at the events to show gratitude to his team.
