Ashley Madison Research Finds Women Reassessing Sexuality as They Age
Ashley Madison has published new research with YouGov examining how women’s attitudes toward sexuality and intimacy change later in life, with the report highlighting a growing emphasis on personal desire and sexual agency among women over 40.
The report, titled Sexual Prime: A Cultural Report on Female Desire Later in Life, draws on responses from 885 Ashley Madison members surveyed in March 2026, alongside a wider YouGov survey of 13,597 adults across 11 countries conducted in November 2025.
Among Ashley Madison member respondents, 45% said they reached their sexual prime at age 40 or older. The research also points to differences between younger and older generations in how women perceive their pleasure within relationships. Among women in the general population, 48% of those aged 25–34 said their pleasure had been prioritised throughout their relationships, compared with 39% of those aged 45–54.
The findings suggest that some women may become more comfortable discussing or exploring their sexuality as they gain experience and greater awareness of their own preferences. One in five Ashley Madison member respondents said they had never explored their true sexuality within their primary relationship.
This, naturally, could mean that they are more open to exploring their sexuality or new sexual experiences. For others, it may mean an urge to seek out relationships that allow them to fulfil those needs, especially as their preferences get more specific.
The report also identifies challenges around communicating sexual needs. Thirty-nine percent of female member respondents said their pleasure had typically not been prioritised in a committed relationship, citing factors including putting a partner’s needs first, unsuccessful attempts to communicate desires, or sex not being a priority.
Among women in the wider population, 31% said becoming more aware of and in tune with their desires had motivated them to express those desires.
The findings point to a potentially significant audience whose expectations around intimacy and relationships may not fit traditional assumptions about age and desire. This could be a heavily underserved niche within the dating industry, one that may be overlooked by platforms that are either targeting younger audiences or treating older singles with a less sexuality-forward approach.
