Bumble’s Unsolicited Nudes Law Inspires New Technology on BDSM App

BDSM dating app, KinkD has adopted AI technology following the campaign by Bumble’s CEO to prevent the sending of unwanted sexually explicit images.

The new technology automatically deletes explicit photos in line with the new Texas law, which came about as a result of a campaign by Whitney Wolfe Herd.

The Texas law, which came into effect on 1st September 2019, criminalises the sending of unsolicited graphic photos. Perpetrators could be fined up to $500.

John Martinuk, co-founder of KinkD, said in a press release“The new Texas law has raised our concern about the safety of female users, that’s why we ran a survey, sampling 2000 women on our app.

“The results showed that almost 90% of the respondents have, at some point in their lives, received at least one unwanted sexual picture.”

KinkD released the technology on the 23rd February and is currently deleting up to 2,500 images a day.

Martinuk added: “We want to create a safe environment, not only for female users to avoid sexual harassment, but also to help all users on KinkD to keep the law.”

Wolfe Herd has been campaigning for such action since 2018 when she started working with US legislators to ban the sending of lewd images. In October, the female-first social app introduced its own piece of AI software that automatically blurs images of exposed genitalia.
