Hinge Reveals ‘Standouts’ and Roses Features With Streamlined Redesign
Hinge has introduced two new features that are designed to streamline the dating process, by helping users cut through the crowd and find the people they’re most compatible with.
The first update is ‘Standouts’, which works with Hinge’s ‘Prompts’, the questions for singles to reveal their individual personalities, which also act as potential conversation starters. Standouts is an added news feed that displays the best Prompts and Photo Prompts from people that the algorithm has judged to be the most well-matched.
The feed refreshes everyday and is curated based on the user’s previous activity, such as their likes and the messages they’ve sent.
Users must send a ‘Rose’ in order to like someone from their Standouts section. This is a new premium liking feature inspired by ‘The Bachelor’, which is meant to convey a greater level of interest.

Every Sunday, members will receive a free Rose that can also be sent in the main ‘Discover’ section. However, they can purchase additional Roses for $3.99 each, or six for $19.99.
Hinge’s Chief Product Officer Tim MacGougan explained to The Verge that the higher price point should keep it sacred, and might make recipients more inclined to respond.
Along with the two new features, Hinge also brought out a new app design which is reflects meeting in the real world and helps people focus on their matches. It uses naturally occurring colours like purples and greens, as opposed to bright, attention-grabbing ones.
New illustrations of hand-drawn figures and imperfect geometrics have been added, to give the app a more human feel and represent all the unique people that make up the community.
