Jeronimo Folgueira Joins Music Streaming Service Deezer as New CEO
Former Spark Networks CEO Jeronimo Folgueira, who left the online dating company at the end of 2019, is preparing to take a new position at Deezer.
He will officially join the popular music streaming service in June, replacing outgoing CEO Hans-Holger Albrecht. However, Folgueira has already started to work with the Board of Directors and executive management teams, in order to ensure a smooth transition.
The role will see him relocate to Paris, having previously worked with Spark Networks in Berlin.
Folgueira said in a statement: “I couldn’t be more excited to join Deezer. I’m passionate about music and podcasts. They hold a unique place in our hearts and Deezer’s team has built a service that is the perfect companion to people’s daily lives.
“Deezer is a key player and contributor to the fast growth of music streaming around the world. We have a highly competitive platform with unique features that listeners love. That means we’re in a great place to accelerate our growth and capture many new opportunities, which will benefit both artists and music fans.”
Deezer’s Chairman of the Board Guillaume d’Hauteville added: “[Jeronimo’s] experience, vision and passion make him the perfect leader to build on the success we’ve had so far and grow Deezer going forward.”
Last month, Folgueira revealed his latest venture, joining the team behind a special acquisition company called Tio Tech. The blank-check business raised $300 million after being listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
Tio Tech is fronted by the co-founders of meal kit provider HelloFresh and is aiming to help European technology companies launch on US markets.
