Plenty Of Fish Finds Singles Spend £1,349 Annually on Dates

A Plenty Of Fish survey has found that the average single person in the UK spends approximately £1,349 per year on dates, as costs for travel, preparation and gifts rack up.

2,000 daters were asked about their habits to find out more about the country’s dating culture. The average dater will go on 13 dates per year and spend just over £100 on each outing.

The study also revealed that they spend almost an hour getting ready. This doesn’t just include grooming, but also checking the security of the venue and background checks on their partner.

Perhaps surprisingly men tend to spend more money on getting ready for dates, £74.07 compared to women spending £53.14.

It was found that the UK still holds traditional attitudes towards dating when it comes to paying for the bill. On average, men will contribute just over 70% more than women.

Shannon Smith, a spokesperson for Plenty of Fish, said in a statement: “While we can feel under pressure to sweep new love interests off their feet with lavish date ideas, it’s clear from our research that some of the simplest and cheapest activities can be the ones we enjoy the most.”

At the beginning of June, Global Head of Marketing Stefan Harvalias appeared on The GDI Podcast to talk about how the company helped users have virtual dates while in lockdown.
