Running Clubs Become Dating Trend in Sydney

Residents of Sydney, Australia are joining running clubs as a way to meet new people. Documenting the experience on Tiktok, one runner explained that “the whole of Sydney have decided to give up the dating apps”.

A number of Sydney residents have highlighted how running clubs have become a new craze among young people, offering an alternative way to find a community and meet new people.

In a report from News.com.au, young singles from Sydney shared that they’ve had difficulty on dating apps, and are now preferring opportunities to meet people IRL, including running groups.

Psychologist Carly Dober pointed out that the rise of running club culture was related to dating app fatigue, online dating burnout, and its negative effects on mental health.

“Not only do these run clubs provide opportunities just to meet people and widen our social circles, but we know that talking to people face-to-face yields more helpful interactions compared to online interactions,” she told News.com.au.
