Shaadi.com Launches ‘PetShaadi’ as April Fool’s Prank
Dating and matchmaking website Shaadi.com launched ‘PetShaadi.com’, a new service for animals as part of an April Fool’s Day promotional campaign.
While the release was only done for a practical joke, PetShaadi.com received over 1000 registrations from owners in just three days, and received a lot of attention on social media posts.
On 1st April, emails were sent out to all registered members users to wish them a Happy April Fool’s Day.
Adhish Zaveri, director of marketing at Shaadi.com said in a statement: “With the current situation, it was a tough decision to make. It’s like Fool’s Day isn’t a thing this year. While a lot of us are talking about the current situation, we believed it was time to change the topic and spread some joy and cheer. We all need something to smile about, something to make us feel better.
“And with the response we’ve received, you never know, we might just make Pet-dates a real thing.”
As a part of the campaign, a microsite was created in which a user had to fill in their pet’s details and share an email ID.
To make this prank seem legitimate, features such a Pet Grooming, Video chats and Territory based matches were promoted.
Elsewhere, Muzmatch pulled an April Fool’s prank by announcing a new feature which connected users with their match’s Dad, in order to receive a verification badge.
