HowTheyAsked, a blog dedicated to wedding proposals, has covered the story of how two OkCupid users got engaged on Valentine’s Day during a trip to the dating app’s offices in New York City.
Jennifer and Eric live in San Diego and were invited to take part in a user research panel, as part of Match Group’s All Hands Meeting.
After being asked what first attracted him to OkCupid and Jennifer, Eric took the opportunity to get down on one knee and present a diamond ring to his partner.
Through a mixture of tears and laughter, Jennifer responded with a simple “yes”, met by cheers and applause from the audience.
There was another surprise in store for the couple when they were gifted with a $10,000 cheque as a donation toward the wedding.
The panel was hosted by OkCupid’s CMO Melissa Hobley, who reportedly gets several wedding invitations a week. She recently spoke to the Financial Express in India about how the dating platform is developing and expanding in the country.
Also on Valentine’s Day, OkCupid ran a brand awareness campaign in major US cities, handing out romantic gift bags to morning commuters.
