What is Dating’s Peak Season? Tinder Tells All

As we kick-off 2024, online dating is in full swing. Ahead of Dating Sunday, Tinder has definitively defined dating’s ‘Peak Season’, sharing statistics that prove this is truly the time to swipe.

The first Sunday of the year (falling on 7th of January in 2024) is known to record high-levels of dating app use. Tinder has dubbed this day ‘Swipe Sunday™’, and acknowledged its part in the peak period for online dating which lasts from the 1st of January to the 14th of February.

During this month and a half period, Tinder shares that 519 bios are edited and 2,263 photos are uploaded to profiles every minute. It also revealed that 11.4 million more messages and 58.7 million more likes are sent during Peak Season compared with the rest of the year.

‘Swipe Sunday™’ represents the crescendo of this period, seeing an 18.2% increase in the number of Likes and a 22% increase in the number of messages sent compared to the rest of the year.

On this Sunday alone, users respond on average 19.4 minutes faster than on any other Sunday of the year.

“Dating Sunday remains the busiest day of the year for online dating, with singles looking for new connections between New Year’s and the Valentine’s Day period”, explained Papri Dev, VP APAC Communications at Tinder.

“As young adult singles enter 2024, they are fully embracing their main character energy and setting their relationship goals and dating intentions to make new connections for the year ahead. Tinder has refreshed its look with a suite of new features including Tinder Matchmaker to help singles showcase their authentic selves to make meaningful connections”, she added.

Looking at Gen Z singles in APAC, Tinder identified that this demographic are increasingly opting to use the dating process as a way to find new experiences and make new memories. This was one of the insights revealed in Tinder’s Year in Swipe 2023 report.

“Today’s generation of singles are approaching dating through a refreshingly optimistic lens. Whether it be ‘dating for the plot’ or ‘Not Attached to an Outcome’ (N.A.T.O.) dating as uncovered in Year in Swipe, we expect these trends to be carried into Peak Season, as singles continue to look towards Tinder as a place of endless possibilities”, Dev shared.
