YouGov Analyses Singapore’s Dating App Trends
YouGov has released the first set of results in a three-part study which explores online dating in Singapore. The insights look at how popular online dating is, the country’s most used dating apps, and the dating intentions of these platforms’ users.
In a new three-part study called ‘Dating app usage in Singapore: Popularity, Barriers and Perspectives’, YouGov has shared new insights about the country’s relationship with online dating.
24% of Singapore residents have used a dating app before, with almost equal usage amongst men and women. Millennials (1981 – 1996) were the generation that has used online dating the most at 42%, followed by Gen Z (1997 – 2009) at 36%.
When asked which dating apps they’ve used before, Tinder (59%), Coffee Meets Bagel (46%), OkCupid (34%), and Bumble (34%) were the most popular choices among Singapore residents.
The survey pointed out that ‘homegrown’ dating apps Lunch Actually and Paktor have been used by 14% and 13% of respondents, respectively.
While many platforms are available, some dating apps clearly attract Singaporeans with particular dating intentions. eHarmony was found to have the most number of users who are looking to find a future spouse or life partner. Tinder had the least number in this category.
Hinge’s ‘designed to be deleted’ motto struck a chord with Singaporeans, with the dating app seeing the highest number of daters looking for a serious or exclusive relationship. The second and third most popular platform among this demographic is eHarmony and Lunch Actually.
For a hookup or casual dating, eHarmony, Happn, and Grindr were the most popular choices. OkCupid, Bumble and Coffee Meets Bagel saw the least number of users looking for these casual encounters.
Friendship-seeking users were most likely to use Grindr, Happn, and eHarmony to make these new platonic connections.
