Snapchat has partnered with payment processor Square to let users transfer money via the app.
Square has its own way of letting people send money with an email – called Square Cash – but this combination with Snapchat means they are reaching an audience of over 100m users.
In a blog post, Snapchat said they built a prototype of the new feature – entitled Snapcash – which they showed to Square, who liked the idea and got on board.
The feature is fairly simple – you add a credit card which is securely stored by Square, swipe into the chat function, type a dollar sign and an amount, and click send.
Snapcash is currently only available for those over 18 in the US.
This is the first time Square have partnered with a third-party to let them use their payment system.
