Tinder Expands Dating Safety Guide to More Indian Languages

Tinder has expanded its Dating Safety Guide to four additional Indian languages – Bengali, Hindi, Kannada, and Marathi – in an effort to make online dating safer and more accessible. Originally launched in English in September 2023, the guide has already garnered over one million views and 50,000 downloads. The move comes ahead of Safer Internet Day, reflecting Tinder’s ongoing commitment to user safety.

Developed in partnership with the Centre for Social Research, the guide helps users recognize romance scams, which have become a growing concern in online dating. It outlines key warning signs and provides practical advice on how to protect privacy, verify identities, and use security features such as Video Chat and in-app blocking tools. Users can access the guide through the app starting February 11.

Beyond this guide, Tinder offers several built-in safety features, including Report Chat, Block Contacts, Video Verification, and AI-driven message monitoring tools like “Does this message make you uncomfortable?” and “Are you sure?”. These features aim to proactively warn users and prevent potential scams before they escalate.

Tinder’s Senior Communication Manager for Southern Europe, Vicente Balbastre, emphasized the company’s dedication to protecting users, stating, “We work tirelessly to help prevent and warn users about potential scams or fraud by using AI tools and proactively intervening either with in-app features, notifications, or education.”

While this has the obvious advantage of being a useful safety measure around Valentine’s Dayu, it’s much more likely that Tinder is interested in a safer digital dating environment in India, making essential safety information more accessible to a broader audience. This could be a small indicator that the Indian dating market is something that the platform has a focus on, at least in the long-term.
