Chinese Gay App Blued Planning First International Launch In The Netherlands
Chinese gay dating app Blued has announced plans of its first international launch outside of China.
Blued will soon expand into the Netherlands, CEO Geng Le announced on 7th February.
Since its launch in 2011, the app already has over 15m members, and 3m active daily users.
The app lets users connect via location to chat, swap photos and share content from social media sites like Weibo and Tencent QQ.
Le said they chose the Netherlands because it was the first country to legalise same-sex marriage, describing it as a “paradise” for homosexuals.
Earlier in the year, the app made headlines when it raised $30m in funding, led by venture capital firm DCM.
At the time, Le said: “In 16 months, Blued has completed three rounds of financing and our valuation far exceeds that of some heterosexual social products.
“Our development can make more people to see the value of the gay internet, as well as the diversity and progress of Chinese society.”
