Over 2 Billion People Use a Top Five Social App Every Month

Following the release of its most recent Retrospective Report, App Annie has looked at how many people are using one of the top five social apps each month.
Social media is a global phenomenon which has millions of people communicating all around the world.
App Annie discovered in its new findings that in 2017, over two billion people used one of the top five social apps each month on average, with the top five apps by time spent having changed the most in the emerging markets.
The company also reported that in India alone, over 71 billion hours were spent on the top five social apps on Android. Whatsapp accounted for over half of these hours.

Further, it appears that mature markets have actually seen fewer changes to their top five social apps than may have been expected. The growing user bases and increased functionality has increased the overall use.
App Annie also looked at the top social apps by different countries, and Facebook’s domination has become apparent with the platform’s owned apps – Facebook Messenger, Instagram and Whatsapp all holding the top three positions in many of the countries analysed.
