The domain name of bankrupted dating site True.com has been sold for $350K.
According to a tweet by Sedo.com broker Dave Evanson, the company has sold the domain to TrueCar.com, a car pricing and comparison site.
True.com was bought for $350,000 in an all cash deal.
Evanson approached TrueCar.com about the opportunity to purchase True.com.
He said: “I saw their TV commercials for TrueCar.com and I knew it was a perfect fit.”
True.com is currently being used as a landing page, displaying a link to TrueCar.com, and a message reading:
“We are true. An ecosystem of data driven companies committed to bringing transparency to complex marketplaces. See our first expression of this at TrueCar.com and stay tuned for what’s next.”
True.com filed for bankruptcy last year and Canadian dating site Plenty of Fish offered $700,000 for True.com’s assets, including its 43m strong member database.
However, Plenty of Fish were forced to withdraw their proposal as Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott filed a legal objection to the sale of the database, saying it violated privacy laws.
TrueCar was founded in 2005 and recently received $30m of funding from Paul Allen’s Vulcan Capital.
