Cairo-Based App Harmonica Seals $150,000 in Funding

Harmonica is set for expansion after it qualified or seed acceleration from global accelerator 500 Startups.

The Cairo based matchmaking startup is part of 18 startup companies which have also received seed acceleration in the 23rd batch of 500 Startups’ global accelerator in Silicon Valley.

Harmonica uses an algorithm to help its user base to find romance online.

The app apparently has an estimated 70,000 unique users and over five million sessions.

Harmonica has stated that the $150,000 funds will go towards improving its algorithm and technology and to add to its team members.

The app is seen as strictly Arab orientated and provides solutions to the problem of finding love. The main purpose of the app is to lead people to marriage.

Harmonica users are allowed to choose the city they would prefer their partner to be from and the age range.

The app then uses the algorithm to match partners together. However, users are only allowed to speak to one person at a time on the app, which is very different to other online dating platforms.
